As October wound to its end, the trees in New England 鈥 and even some in California 鈥 have gone from bright green to rich red and yellow. Autumn has come to 91黑料, and to celebrate its coming, the sophomore classes on both coasts hosted Halloween dances over the weekend for their fellow students, featuring the ever-popular costume contest!
In New England, the sophomores decided to go more sweet than spooky with an 鈥淎lice in Wonderland鈥 theme, transforming Bl. Frassati Student Center into a whimsical wonderland with cards on the walls, multicolored balloons and streamers hung from the balcony, and tables set with candy-filled teacups. As the dance began, costumed characters flooded the dance floor, greeting each other and laughing as they recognized each other鈥檚 costumes.
The costume contest was up first on the agenda. Students paraded around the floor and were eliminated one by one, until the final few groups remained. 鈥淢ost Effort鈥 was given to a group who went as the Scooby Doo gang (Mystery Machine and all!), 鈥淏est Duo鈥 to Man With the Yellow Hat and Curious George, 鈥淢ost Original Group鈥 to several students dressed as their tutors, while 鈥淏est Overall鈥 went to an impeccably recreated Wesley from The Princess Bride.

In California, the sophomores transformed the Fritz B. Burns Auditorium in St. Cecilia Hall according to their 鈥渃asino鈥 theme. Shining spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs dangled above the floor, streamers filled doorways, and other glamorous d茅cor filled the spaces, suiting the evening鈥檚 entertainment, a raucous parody of the film Ocean鈥檚 Eleven.
Of course, the greatest excitement was the costume contest. As in New England, students paraded around the dance floor decked out in all manner of attire for the judges to evaluate. The list of winning costumes was eclectic, indeed: Edna Mode of The Incredibles, an unfortunate weatherman caught in a storm, a frighteningly accurate Post Malone, Marge and Homer of The Simpsons, Shrek and Fiona of Shrek, as well as character ensembles from Breaking Bad and Despicable Me 鈥 not to mention a band of international Communists!
On both coasts, the dancing began in earnest soon after the costume contest, Communists waltzing with weathermen and 鈥渢utors鈥 swinging with the denizens of the Mystery Machine. It was an evening of zany fun that lasted well into the night!
