At the midpoint of the semester, as 91����, New England, took a break from classes for Don Rags, students gathered last Wednesday for the semi-annual Open-Mic Night — a chance to show off their musical prowess and appreciation for the performing arts.

The event began with a raucous rendition of “Folsom Prison Blues,” followed by freshmen Sol Britos and Theresa Bingham’s performance of “Pescador de Hombres” and an original song sung by Claire Howard (’26), among many others. Fellow freshmen Ed Salazar and Benjamin Purtell (’26) both performed piano pieces that left the audience awestruck, and John Gutch (’25) made everyone roar with laughter with his animated portrayal of “Why Paddy’s Not At Work Today.” The poetry of G. K. Chesterton made two appearances that night, as Cecilia Alvarez (’24) recited a portion of “The Ballad of the White Horse” and Samuel Livingston (’26) performed the entirety of “Lepanto.”

“It was a lot of fun,” said Margaret Duffy (’24). “All the people who performed looked like they were having a great time.”
