The New England campus roared back to life today as 67 high school students arrived for the two-week High School Summer Program!

The program follows almost directly on the heels of the previous, one-week program, and for the first time in the College’s history, two students from the one-week are returning for the two-weeker! Many of the other students have been here for open houses in the past and so are already familiar with the campus, while others have never been to this little corner of Northfield, Massachusetts, and are looking forward to getting to know about the College.

As students arrived with their parents or came from the airport in the College’s transports, they headed to St. Pier Giorgio Frassati Student Center to check in, collect their name tags and books for the upcoming weeks, and chat with their peers. Over snacks and drinks, the newly arrived students began to acquaint themselves with one another, then headed up to the residence halls to settle into their rooms. 

Once the students were on campus, all moved down to Dolben Auditorium, where Direction of Admissions John Jost had prepared a brief orientation. He began by introducing himself and the other members of the Admissions team, followed by the program’s tutors and chaplains: Rev. Greg Markey and Rev. Moses (Luke ’14) Blain, O. Praem. The program’s academic director, Dr. Paul Shields then gave a brief talk explaining the Discussion Method employed in the College’s classrooms. “The purpose of the program is to attempt to replicate for the high school students the spiritual, social, and academic life of the College,” he said.

Following Dr. Shields, both Fr. Markey and Fr. Moses spoke briefly about their roles on campus during the Summer Program and about the spiritual life of the College. “The mission is not only to teach your children to think well,” Fr. Moses explained, “but also to live �ɱ����.”

After the orientation, the programmers, parents and prefects took a guided tour of the campus, then returned to St. Frassati Student Center in anticipation of dinner.
