Finishing Strong
This morning, after a night of wholesome partying, students woke up with a mixture of anticipation and wistfulness. The final full day of the Summer Program had arrived, bringing with it many activities that the students have been looking forward to all week, tinged with the realization that their time together was quickly drawing to a close. After breakfast, the students filtered out of the dining hall and made their way to St. Gianna Molla Hall for their last Euclid class. When they arrived, each section discovered an array of lovely gifts at each seat: a TAC T-shirt, a framed photo of their class section, and more!
The remaining programmers had their turns at the board and gave the final demonstrations in Euclid, bringing the students鈥 journey with Book I of Euclid鈥檚 Elements to a close. They explored interior and exterior angles, the relationships formed by parallel lines, and the famous proof that the three interior angles of any given triangle are equal in sum to a total of two right angles.
After Euclid, students went to Mass or back to their dorms before reconvening in the dining hall to enjoy a lunch of fish and chips. Then, they were off to their last class of the day, this time on Flannery O鈥機onnor鈥檚 short story 笔补谤办别谤鈥檚 Back. One of the most anticipated readings of the Program, the story prompted thoughtful conversations as the students considered themes of grace and redemption, suffering and transformation, and faith.
When the last class of the Summer Program released, the students headed out of the building with their section mates, expecting an ordinary walk back to their dorms. To their surprise, they were greeted with upbeat music and all the prefects shouting and applauding! The programmers made their way down the prefect-lined walkway, cheering along with the prefects and hitting high-fives all the way down the stairs. It was a joyful sendoff into an afternoon of celebration.
