Student talk with tutor

With just a couple of days left in the California High School Summer Program, attendees awoke this morning determined to give it their all until the finish, just as they did during yesterday鈥檚 Quad Run. After breakfast, they hustled to the classrooms for their penultimate classroom discussion.

For their only class of the day, students dove into the final books of Boethius鈥檚 Consolation of Philosophy. In today鈥檚 reading, Boethius questions Lady Philosophy about the difference between chance and Divine Providence, sparking discussions about the Final Judgement and action by necessity. Sections contemplated Lady Philosophy鈥檚 defense of free will, considering whether her arguments satisfy human reason and console the human heart. The tutors helped guide the classes as they considered these difficult questions, and students left with a better understanding of their role as humans and children of God.
