Dancing Through Tuesday
With Boethius behind them, students on the New England High School Summer Program took no time to change on Tuesday afternoon and headed to Olivia Music Hall for dance practice. They learned the basic waltz step, following the three-beat rhythm of the music as they spun around the room, changing partners with each song. Eventually, they added swing to the mix as well, growing more confident in both dance forms as they practiced throughout the afternoon.
Dinner arrived all too soon, and programmers marched up the hill to Gould Hall to fill their stomachs with street tacos. Over the meal, they chatted about the next day鈥檚 readings, their favorite dance steps, and more, growing ever closer in friendship.
Finally, it was time for study hall! The first half of the session was spent reading quietly, but for the second, students broke into groups to practice their Euclidean demonstrations. It was a productive time: Prefects gave the first demonstration, and then students worked through the props on their own, taking turns demonstrating and walking through the steps together.
As the sun began to set, programmers closed their books and went to St. Frassati Coffee Shop, indulging in pina coladas and Mexican sodas. Over Bananagrams, Twister, and ping-pong, they unwound from the day, relaxing as they talked in groups or practiced some of their dance steps once again. Most exciting was the anticipation for the next day鈥檚 activity: an excursion off campus to visit the Clark Art Museum in Western Massachusetts.
Adoration marked the final activity of the night, and all sat in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel, enveloped in the Divine Presence. Focused on the monstrance, students brought their prayers before Our Lord in the Chapel鈥檚 silence, said the Rosary, and received the Sacrament of Confession.
The programmers soon headed to bed, excited for Wednesday鈥檚 adventure. Check in with the Summer Blog later today for a quick recap of their Euclid class, and again tomorrow morning for their journey to the Clark!
