For much of the last two decades, The Hearst Foundations have been loyal benefactors to 91����, and this year is no exception. The New York-based philanthropies, which primarily fund education, health, culture, and social-service programs, that they are awarding a $50,000 grant to support the more than 70 percent of 91���� students who receive financial aid.

“Once again, we find ourselves owing a great debt of gratitude to The Hearst Foundations,” says President Michael F. McLean, who notes that the foundations first established an endowment at the College in 1994. “The College has, since its very founding, welcomed all students who are willing and able to complete our academic program, regardless of their financial means. It is generosity such as The Hearst Foundations’ that makes this commitment possible.”

Over the last several years 91���� has enjoyed one of the highest alumni-giving rates in the country, a trend which, Dr. McLean notes, makes the College a more attractive investment for philanthropies. “When foundations see the great value our alumni place on the education they received here, they can be confident about supporting our program of liberal education,” he says. “Our alumni are our finest ambassadors, and now, thanks to The Hearst Foundations, more worthy students will have the opportunity to one day become 91���� alumni.”
