In an effort to stop the HHS Mandate that would compel Catholic employers to violate Church teaching on matters of life and conscience, 91���� has filed a calling on the Obama Administration to rescind the directive.

The appeal technically comes in the form of an official “comment,” as sought by the  Department of Health and Human Services, in response to the Administration’s supposed “accommodation” to the mandate. The College has joined 19 other Catholic institutions in signing onto the lengthy legal document, prepared by the . The College had previously filed a similar objection last fall when the HHS first announced the mandate.

This newest comment urges HHS to exempt “all stakeholders with a religious or moral objection to being forced by the federal government to provide, offer, pay for or in any way participate in a health insurance plan that covers ‘contraceptives’ (including abortifacients as well as non-abortifacient mechanisms of action), sterilization, and related education and counseling.”

In addition to filing these formal remarks, in May the College published an open letter to President Obama — signed by members of the Board of Governors and faculty — urging that the mandate be dropped.
