With St. Patrick鈥檚 Day falling on a Lenten Friday, the students of 91黑料 fasted on Friday, but feasted on Saturday.

At 91黑料 California, the hills surrounding campus were a fitting lush emerald green thanks to this semester鈥檚 record rainfall. Donning green of any kind, students, and some faculty members with their families, gathered in the St. Joseph Commons, where they found a stage, lights, and dance floor. It wasn鈥檛 long before the fun began!

Live music swelled, from traditional Irish fiddling to ballads sung by the student choir Chrysostomos, and couples took to the dance floor. The singing continued long after the dancing had concluded. 鈥淢y favorite part was learning all the words so I could sing along with my friends,鈥 said Cindy Graf (鈥24).

In New England, meanwhile, students and faculty found their to way to the Bl. Pier-Giorgio Frassati Student Center, where the coffee shop-employees welcomed the green-clad partygoers with minty Shamrock Shakes.

The centerpiece of the night was the soda-bread competition: All manner of soda breads decked the judge鈥檚 table, including both traditional recipes, modern cheese-filled takes, and even a mysterious green loaf that had been marinated in soda. Cecilia Alvarez (鈥24) took first place, much to her own pleased surprise. 鈥淚 used a gluten-free recipe and substituted in regular flour,鈥 she laughed. 鈥淚 never imagined that would be the winner!鈥

Like their Californian counterparts, the New Englanders knew that no St. Patrick鈥檚 celebration would be complete without singing. Grace Miller (鈥24) led the way with Irish jigs, while Jack Milligan (鈥26) led an energetic rendition of 鈥淭he Rattlin鈥 Bog.鈥 Russell Jarvis (鈥25) sang 鈥淭he Parting Glass鈥 with a group of friends.

The Apostle of the Emerald Isle would have been proud!
