Why did Jesus take on human nature? How did the Son of God redeem humanity when He died on the Cross? Why was it fitting that He should die this way? These are just a few of the questions that California students considered when they met for the semester鈥檚 All-College Seminar this past Friday to discuss excerpted writings from St. Thomas Aquinas concerning Christ鈥檚 sacrifice.

Mixed groups of about 20 students from all grade levels 鈥 freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors 鈥 gathered in classrooms across the campus to discuss the reading. Tutors led them in their deliberations, sharing wisdom and, in some cases, meeting students they had yet to encounter.

鈥淢y seminar had great chemistry,鈥 said Jonathan Steineke (鈥24). 鈥淭he reading posed a lot of great conversations that might not otherwise come up in everyday catechesis. 鈥 It really touched on the human element of Christ, about His will and the things He went through.鈥

After the seminars, students and tutors came together for a pizza party in St. Joseph Commons to continue the conversation and unwind. 鈥淚t was a lot of fun to talk to people in other sections,鈥 said Allanna Donnelly (鈥23). 鈥淵ou get to hear about what other people discussed. Not to mention, the pizza鈥檚 pretty great too!鈥
